Chair Sample Approval Checklist Before Bulk Production

Published by JP · Custom chair studio in Foshan, China

The approved sample is the most important document in a custom chair project — it is the master every bulk unit is measured against. Sign off carelessly and the container arrives wrong. Run this checklist before you approve.

1. Dimensions and tolerances

Measure seat height, overall height, width and depth against your drawing. Note tolerances (typically a few mm) and confirm they fit your tables and your guests. A 2 cm seat-height miss changes comfort and clears none of your tables.

2. Sit, lean, listen

Actually sit in it for a few minutes. Check back support, the front edge, any creak and stability on a hard floor. Comfort you feel in 30 seconds is comfort your guest feels in two hours.

3. Materials and finish

Verify the wood species or steel grade, the foam density, the fabric abrasion and the finish colour under your real lighting. Photograph the sample next to your actual table and floor.

4. Lock inspection points

Agree in writing which points are checked on bulk (weld, finish, foam, colour, load). The sample plus this checklist is what the factory inspects against, so write down what matters to you.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I check on a chair sample?

Dimensions vs drawing, real sit comfort, materials and finish under your lighting, and agreed inspection points.

Why photograph the sample next to my table?

Colour and proportion read differently under showroom light; your real table and floor expose mismatches early.

What are inspection points for bulk?

Written checks on weld, finish, foam, colour and load rating, measured against the approved sample.

What happens if I approve carelessly?

The bulk run is measured against your approved sample, so errors in the sample repeat across the whole order.
